Some of the top reviewers on Amazon have weighed in:

By ChibiNeko: "Before I get started, I just want to let people know what type of book this is. It's a sci-fi fantasy, but it's a CHRISTIAN sci-fi fantasy. That might sound sort of busy to people & it is to an extent, but before you start turning your minds off & start to look at other books, let me tell you that you really need to give this book a chance. It's too good to ignore."
"Where do I start with this book? First off, I absolutely love that Jones managed to make a book that is religious but not preachy. There are far too many books out there where they go light on the plot in order to awkwardly interject their religious message into the book, which makes many of the books seem preachy & the religious content just seem way too out of place. That doesn't happen with this book- religion is an important part of the book & Jones tries very hard to make it flow as naturally as possible. The pacing of the book was very good & readers will be frantically flipping through the book in order to resolve the cliffhanger of the previous chapter for those specific characters."

By Bobbie: "An Epic Christian Thriller..."

"The young adults are much like the characters in "A Wrinkle in Time." Without understanding, they are drawn into a very dark world where demons abound, and where time does not exist. Only by working together can they even begin to hope that they might escape. They are given guidance by angels, but must fight their own battles in the end. "

How do would I describe this book?

Imagine Harry Potter, Inception, The Shack and the television show Lost each in the corner of a page. To Wrestle with Darkness would fall somewhere near the middle of that page.

Synopsis: On the surface, this story is about a family of exorcists, who possess super-natural gifts, which they use to combat evil. The story is told from the perspective of Michael, who at the beginning of the tale is a self-professed atheist drawn into the family business. But underneath all of the action, this story is really about relationships and the struggle each of us face as we wrestle with the dark forces in this world and in our lives.

An excerpt from To Wrestle with Darkness

We rounded the corner of her street to the greeting of a strong stiff breeze that quickly became a windstorm. “What the….!” I cried out, taken by surprise. The others then grabbed the wrought iron fencing along the walk, and so did I pulling up the rear. Avis’s house was, thankfully, next door to the corner house. I looked up to see the front door of her home open and I realized that the gale we faced was coming straight from her door. It went not right, nor straight ahead, but turned left at her front gate and directly at us. I also noticed for the first time that the inlaid stained glasses on the windows were placed in such a pattern to make a crucifix on each one. Some were red, some blue, some white and some black. The large wooden front doors were flung open and flailing. We could see the inside of them and the crosses carved into them so deeply that even the darkness could not hide them. Considering what we believed to have taken place here, even I, the professed atheist found this a bit perverse.
The gale subsided just enough for us to move forward. When we reached the front gate, we found it locked. As Darnell reached for the lock, Uncle Paul restrained his hand saying, “Boy, let your cousin have a look at that.” He was nodding towards me.
I knew immediately what he wanted. I reached out my hand taking the padlock in my hand. With a little concentra-tion I began to feel texture within the metal hoop that locked us out and away from Carla. I felt the inside of the substance move as I rubbed it. First it changed colors, but I continued to rub. Then suddenly, I rubbed it to a state that it became a vapor, strangely sinking to the ground rather than rising. It was a matter I would have loved to ponder right then, but my immediate desire was to have the gate open and that it was. Uncle Paul gave me a second nod. This time it was an affirm-ing nod. He walked by me leading us into the front yard. Weeds dominated the landscape, but scattered about were a strange collection of other plants I’d never seen before. I looked up to the tree branches and saw what looked like a face staring back at me. Then something clicked and I looked again at ground level and realized that the bushes and stunted tree-like objects around me were petrified torsos and other odd body parts. They stood like statues of petrified wooden warriors guarding a prize no one could want. But then I looked above again at the fruit hanging above me and saw through the darkness vague shapes of heads without bodies. Then in my spirit the warriors around me became symbols of some defeated army. Like a parade of dead flies caught in a spider’s web, these empty carcasses marked the passing of life not yielded freely. Even in death, each of these faceless ones still cried out in some personal agony that only Heaven could now heal. And would it ever? I used to wonder about these things, but right then, perhaps for the first time in my life, I understood something about Hell.

Also, please check out "Zero to 80" a new book just released by Olu Brown, the lead pastor at the church I attend (Impact Church). The book deals with how to encourage and manage rapid church growth. I contributed to several of the chapters as a member of the leadership team. Zero to 80

In Our Anger

I was a teenager during the height of the “missing and murdered children case” here in Atlanta. I remember one frantic evening when my younger brother was late getting home from a school event. I remember my mother breaking down into tears as we searched. We found him safe and sound, but you never forget the times you see your mother cry. Those moments are seared into your soul. Then, how much worse is it for the Trayvon Martin’s mother?

But what if?

What if there was no audio…

Buried Prayers

I've been burying my prayers

holding them down

beneath the ground

I've been burying my prayers

do they make a sound

will they be found

I've been burying my prayers

under a red clay mound

my love is bound

I've been burying my prayers

where hearts no longer pound

and hopes drown

Heavenly Places

Our heavenly places transcend

time and space

life and death

flesh and spirit

Where are our heavenly places?

in the beginning of a new day

in the midst of confession

in the end of a journey home

Where are our heavenly places?

in submission to God

in the breath of our prayers

in the silence of our fears

Where are our heavenly places?

in the love of our children

in the…
